Emory & Henry’s Payton Shirey Named ODAC Swimmer Of The Week

FOREST, Va. – Emory & Henry College freshman Payton Shirey has been selected as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week, ODAC officials announced Monday. It is the second time that Shirey has earned the honor this year and the fourth for an E&H swimmer.

Only Washington and Lee University won more Swimmer of the Week honors (five) with Bridgewater College and Greensboro College picking up the remaining two awards.

The Wasps picked up three wins in dual competition on Saturday, defeating Warren Wilson College, 140-78; LaGrange College, 140-62; and Greensboro College, 133-80. E&H finishes the 2012-13 regular season with a 9-1 dual meet record and a 5-1 mark against ODAC competition.

The Seaford, Del. native led Emory & Henry with three individual event wins and swam the lead-off on the 200-yard freestyle relay (:25.43). She posted times of :25.00 and :56.74 in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle, respectively, and won the 50-yard butterfly (:27.84).

Emory & Henry will conclude the 2012-13 campaign at the 2013 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships next month. The meet will run from Friday, February 8 through Sunday, February 10 and will take place at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
