ESSEX FELLS, N.J. – For a second-straight semester, the Emory & Henry College Women's Swimming Team has earned academic honors from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. As a team, the Wasps have been named Scholar All-America while two swimmers garnered Honorable Mention Scholar All-America accolades.
E&H boasted the 27th-best GPA among all NCAA Division III women's swimming programs with a 3.48 cumulative grade point average. The mark was at the top of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference as Washington and Lee University (3.30), Notre Dame of Maryland University (3.27), Hollins University (3.24) and Randolph-Macon College (3.20) were also honored.
The Team Scholar All-America award is presented to college and university swimming & diving teams, which have achieved a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The award is presented twice annually, once in the fall semester and once in the spring semester. The CSCAA honors teams from each of the NCAA's three divisions, NAIA and NJCAA. For the spring semester, 70 different NCAA Division III programs achieved the Scholar All-America standard.
Individually, freshmen Allison Fowler (Morristown, Tenn.) and Michaela Nolte (Hillsborough, N.C.) were chosen as Honorable Mention Scholar All-America. Fowler was named ODAC Swimmer of the Year after winning the 200-yard butterfly and the 400-yard individual medley. Nolte earned ODAC Rookie of the Year honors with her wins in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke. The duo makes up two of five ODAC swimmers to receive this honor.
The Honorable Mention Scholar All-America Award is presented to those who achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the semester, or cumulative average, and have achieved a "B" time standard but did not qualify for the national championship meet.
