Emory & Henry Women’s Swimming Routs Bridgewater, 168-37, Friday On The Road

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Swimming Team (1-0, 1-0 ODAC) kicked off its slate of dual meets on Friday afternoon with a 168-37 rout of Bridgewater College at Nininger Pool. The Wasps claimed the top two spots in all 11 events including five races where they went 1-2-3.

E&H started the meet off in record-setting fashion as sophomore Jessica Richardson (Vero Beach, Fla.), sophomore Michaela Nolte (Hillsborough, N.C.), sophomore Allison Fowler (Morristown, Tenn.) and junior Payton Shirey (Seaford, Del.) swam a 2:08.05 in the 200-meter medley relay. The group bested the previous record by .18 of a second.

In the 800-meter freestyle, junior Taylor Guardalabene (Charlotte, N.C.) won with a swim of 10:09.06. Freshmen Holly Roth (Albuquerque, N.M.) and Mackenzie Lingle (Roanoke, Va.) finished within 1.71 seconds of one another (2:17.01 and 2:18.72) in the 200-meter freestyle to take the top two spots.

The 50-meter freestyle was a battle to the wall between freshman Marina Moore (Thomasville, N.C.) and Shirey as the race was decided by .05 seconds. Moore claimed the win with a swim of :28.92.

Fowler won the 200-meter individual medley in 2:37.32 while Lingle and Fowler went toe-to-toe in the 100-meter butter fly with Lingle winning by .08 seconds (1:11.72).

Nolte claimed first place in the 100-meter freestyle, swimming a 1:02.32, while Moore was second in 1:04.31.

In the 100-meter backstroke, Richardson broke her own record by .03 seconds, swimming a 1:10.08, with sophomore Jordan Greenburg (Cordova, Tenn.) finishing second with a time of 1:11.86.

Guardalabene made it a two wins on the afternoon with a 4:55.84 in the 400-meter freestyle. Nolte earned her second win of the day, breaking her own record in the 100-meter breaststroke as she clocked a 1:19.24, .15 seconds better than her previous mark.

The final event of the afternoon was the 200-meter freestyle relay. Richardson, Shirey, Guardalabene and Lingle notched a school-record swim of 1:55.00, a performance of 1.35 seconds faster from the previous top mark.

Emory & Henry will be back in the water next Friday when it travels to Hollins University for a ODAC dual meet. The first gun is set for 5:00 p.m.
