Emory & Henry Women’s Swimming Takes Down King And Ferrum Friday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Swimming Team (6-0, 4-0 ODAC) remained perfect on the year as it swept a double-dual with King (Tenn.) University and Ferrum College. The Wasps defeated the NCAA Division II Tornado by a 146-51 score and earned a 165-35 win over Ferrum.

E&H broke five school records in the meet as it won nine of the 11 events and finished 1-2-3 in three races. The first record to fall was in the 200-meter medley relay. Freshman Marina Moore (Thomasville, N.C.), sophomore Michaela Nolte (Hillsborough, N.C.), sophomore Jessica Richardson (Vero Beach, Fla.) and junior Payton Shirey (Seaford, Del.) turned in a time of 2:07.90, .15 seconds ahead of the previous best time.

Junior Taylor Guardalabene (Charlotte, N.C.) was first in the 800-meter freestyle as she swam a 10:16.79. Freshman Holly Roth (Albuquerque, N.M.) won the 200-meter freestyle (2:17.99), edging sophomore Allison Fowler (Morristown, Tenn.) by a second for the win.

In the 200-meter individual medley, E&H took the top three spots with freshman Kelsey Jones (Roanoke, Va.) leading the way in 2:38.94. Guardalabene was close behind in 2:39.04 as the race went down to the final meters.

The Wasps earned their second school record of the afternoon when Nolte topped her previous best time in the 100-meter butterfly by .03 seconds, swimming a 1:09.09. Fowler and junior Nicole Powell (Apex, N.C.) rounded out the top three in the race as Emory & Henry earned the sweep.

E&H made it two records in a row when freshman Mackenzie Lingle (Roanoke, Va.) went 1:01.75 in the 100-meter freestyle, finishing second in the event.

Moore paced Emory & Henry's 1-2-3 finish in the 100-meter backstroke as she clocked a 1:11.40. Roth made it two individual wins on the day with a victory in the 400-meter freestyle (4:53.89). Nolte broke her second record of the day in the 100-meter breaststroke, going 1:18.46 to shave .78 of a second off her previous best.

Emory & Henry finished the day with a record in the 200-meter freestyle relay. Shirey, Moore, Fowler and Lingle turned in a time of 1:54.35 to post a new best by .65 seconds.

Through four dual meets this year Emory & Henry has won 42 of the 44 events in which it has swam. Since the beginning of the 2012-13 season, the Wasps have posted a 25-1 record and have won 20-straight dual meets.

E&H will next compete at the Union (Ky.) College Invitational on Friday, December 5 and Saturday, December 6. The meet will conclude the fall portion of the schedule for the Wasps.
