Emory & Henry Women’s Swimming Sweeps A Double-Dual With Converse And Sweet Briar Saturday

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Swimming Team (4-0, 2-0 ODAC) earned a pair of double-dual victories Saturday afternoon over Converse College and Sweet Briar College. The Wasps defeated the Sweet Briar Vixens by a 161-37 score and topped the NCAA Division II Valkyries of Converse, 138-62.

The Wasps won 10 of the day's 11 events, breaking a pair of school records in the process. There were also four other swims that came within 1.25 seconds of the top time. Emory & Henry is now 2-0 this year against scholarship swimming programs.

Emory & Henry opened the day with a win in the 200-meter medley relay. Sophomore Marina Moore (Thomasville, N.C.), junior Michaela Nolte (Hillsborough, N.C.), freshman Claire Goodrum (Versailles, Ky.) and freshman Adaira Brewer (Raleigh, N.C.) posted a time of 2:08.70 to win the event by nearly seven seconds.

The Wasps took the top two spots in the 800-meter freestyle. Sophomore Holly Roth (Albuquerque, N.M.) won the race in 10:26.98 while senior Taylor Guardalabene (Charlotte, N.C.) was second in 10:31.53.

Sophomore Mackenzie Lingle (Roanoke, Va.) swam a 2:18.51 in the 200-meter freestyle to win the event by nearly two seconds. In the 200-meter individual medley, Nolte came within .08 seconds of a new school record with her swim of 2:33.52 to finish first by 3.8 seconds.

Moore and Brewer went 1-2 in the 50-yard freestyle with times of :28.85 and :29.24, respectively while senior Nicole Powell (Apex, N.C.) nearly beat her own record in the 200-meter butterfly with her third-place finish.

Lingle claimed her second individual win of the day with a swim of 1:03.23 in the 100-meter freestyle while Brewer was second in 1:04.08. Moore made it a pair of individual wins for herself as well, shattering the Emory & Henry record in the 200-meter backstroke with a time of 2:32.24.

Roth made it two individual wins on the afternoon with a time of 4:57.59 in the 400-meter freestyle. Sophomore Brianna Chessock (Winston-Salem, N.C.) was second in the race as she swam a 5:02.82.

In the 200-meter breaststroke, Nolte turned in a time of 2:49.19 to win the event and shatter the previous school record. Sophomore Kelsey Jones (Roanoke, Va.) was third in the event, also coming in under the previous top time.

The Wasps went 1-2 in the 200-meter freestyle relay to complete the day. Lingle, Guardalabene, Goodrum and Chessock won the race with a swim of 1:57.20.

Emory & Henry will be back at home next Saturday, November 21 when it hosts Guilford College and Ferrum College in a double-dual. The meet is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
