Emory & Henry Women’s Swimming Finishes Dual Meet Schedule With A Trio Of Wins Saturday

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Swimming Team (9-1, 6-0 ODAC) completed the dual meet portion of its season on Saturday afternoon with three convincing victories at the Royce Reynolds Family Student Life Center on the campus of Greensboro College. The Wasps downed the host Pride of Greensboro by a 217-32 score while defeating Ferrum College, 222-28, and Randolph-Macon College, 186-76.

The E&H senior class completes their dual meet slate for their four years with a 37-3 overall record. Two of the three losses came at the hands of Carson-Newman University, a member of NCAA Division II which offers the national limit of 8.1 athletic scholarships.

The Wasps won 12 of the 14 events on the day, claiming first and second place in nine of the 12 individual races. Emory & Henry swept the top three spots in four individual races: the 100-yard freestyle, 100- and 200-yard backstrokes and 200-yard breaststroke.

Sophomore Mackenzie Lingle (Roanoke, Va.) earned three individual victories on the day in the 100-yard freestyle (:54.84), the 100-yard butterfly (:1:00.75) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:18.62). She also swam the freestyle leg of the 200-yard medley relay which won in 1:54.22.

Michaela Nolte (Hillsborough, N.C.) also had a trio of first-place finishes, winning the 50-yard freestyle (:25.37), 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.94) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:31.97). The junior tagged a relay win, swimming the second leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:43.34).

Earning two individual event wins for the Wasps was sophomore Marina Moore (Thomasville, N.C.) with a time of 2:05.34 in the 200-yard freestyle and a 2:19.35 in the 200-yard backstroke. Junior Jessica Richardson (Vero Beach, Fla.) took first in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:01.19 while freshman Claire Goodrum (Versailles, Ky.) won the 200-yard butterfly with a swim of 2:20.07.

Emory & Henry will now have two weeks before it competes in the 2016 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships. The meet will be held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center on the grounds of the Greensboro Coliseum Complex for the fifth year in a row. The championship will employ a preliminary-final format and will run from Friday, February 12 to Sunday, February 14.
