Emory & Henry Women’s Swimming Remains Second After Day Two Of 2016 ODAC Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Swimming Team doubled its lead over third place and remains in second place after Day Two of the 2016 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships at the Greensboro Aquatics Center. The Wasps added another individual event win and another three second-place finishes to their tally Saturday.

In the 200-yard medley relay, the Wasps took second with a time of 1:47.96, coming within .34 seconds of a new school record. Junior Jessica Richardson (Vero Beach, Fla.), junior Michaela Nolte (Hillsborough, N.C.), freshman Claire Goodrum (Versailles, Ky.) and senior Taylor Guardalabene (Charlotte, N.C.) swam on the relay.

Guardalabene earned a podium finish in the 400-yard individual medley, clocking a 4:44.83 for third place. Senior Nicole Powell (Apex, N.C.) was fifth (4:53.37) in the event.

Goodrum stopped the watches with a time of :59.60 in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing fourth. Sophomore Mackenzie Lingle (Roanoke, Va.) was sixth (:59.80) in the event as well.

In the 200-yard freestyle, sophomore Holly Roth (Albuquerque, N.M.) was fifth with a 1:59.00 while senior Sam Brown (Memphis, Tenn.) finished 10th.

Nolte claimed her third-straight ODAC title in the 100-yard breaststroke, winning the event by 2.18 seconds with a time of 1:04.50. Sophomores Brianna Chessock (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Kelsey Jones (Roanoke, Va.) were sixth (1:08.55) and seventh (1:08.70), respectively while freshman Adaira Brewer (Raleigh, N.C.) and junior Kia Hamilton (Memphis, Tenn.) came in 13th and 15th.

Richardson posted an Emory & Henry record time of :58.06 in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing as the conference runner-up. Sophomore Marina Moore (Thomasville, N.C.) was fifth (:59.84) while junior Jordan Greenburg (Cordova, Tenn.) was seventh (1:01.82). Freshmen Lauren Belcher (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Madi Holloway (Abingdon, Va.) came in 10th and 15th in the race.

The 800-yard freestyle relay was contested as a timed-finals event. The Wasps went 8:02.72 to finish second with the team of Roth, Goodrum, Moore and Guardalabene.

Emory & Henry will conclude competition in the 2016 ODAC Championships on Sunday. Prelims begin at 10:00 a.m., while the finals will start at 5:00 p.m.

PRELIMINARY RECAP

Event 11 – 200-yard Medley Relay – E&H is seeded second going into tonight's finals. Freshman Lauren Belcher, sophomore Brianna Chessock, freshman Adaira Brewer and sophomore Kelsey Jones turned in a time of 1:56.34 in this morning's preliminaries.

Event 13 – 400-yard Individual Medley – Senior Taylor Guardalabene is seeded third with a time of 4:45.64 while senior Nicole Powell is fifth (4:53.90).

Event 15 – 100-yard Butterfly – The Wasps have two swimmers in the Championship Final this evening as freshman Claire Goodrum is seventh (:59.82) and sophomore Mackenzie Lingle is eighth.

Event 17 – 200-yard Freestyle – Sophomore Holly Roth is fifth after this morning's preliminaries with a swim of 1:58.96. Senior Sam Brown has qualified for this evening's Consolation Finals.

Event 19 – 100-yard Breaststroke – Junior Michaela Nolte broke her own ODAC record by 1.02 seconds and bettered her NCAA "B" Qualifying Standard with a time of 1:03.97. Also in the Championship Finals this evening are Jones and Chessock, who qualified seventh and eighth, respectively. Brewer and junior Kia Hamilton have made the Consolation Finals.

Event 21 – 100-yard Backstroke – Junior Jessica Richardson set a new E&H record in with a swim of :58.11 to qualify fourth. Sophomore Marina Moore is fifth while junior Jordan Greenburg is eighth for tonight's final. Making the Consolation Final are Belcher and freshman Madi Holloway.

Also tonight will be the 800-yard freestyle relay which will be swam as a timed finals event. Emory & Henry has the number two seed in the event (7:58.90).

Emory & Henry swam the 200-yard freestyle relay as a time trial after preliminaries this morning. The Wasps put up a time of 1:36.40 in the event, just .01 seconds off their previous best.
