EMORY, Va./LARGO, Fla. – The Emory & Henry College Men's & Women's Swimming Teams will get the winter portion of their seasons off to a start on Friday with a double-dual meet against King (Tenn.) University and Mars Hill College. The meet will take place on the campus of Virginia High School in Bristol at 6:00 p.m.

The two squads are coming off Winter Break which was a bit different this year than in seasons past. The Wasps took their annual training trip to Florida prior to Christmas instead of after the New Year. With the crippling temperatures that affected the entire country last week, the opportunity to train in 75 degree weather was much more welcome than the 30-degree temperatures which hit the Sunshine State.

During that time, Emory & Henry shared its training location with several other college swimming teams and swam an exhibition meet against the University of Delaware, a member of the NCAA Division I Colonial Athletic Association, on Wednesday, December 20

Against the Blue Hens, senior Bri Chessock (Winston-Salem, N.C.) won the women's 50-yard breaststroke with a time of :33.08 while senior Mackenzie Lingle (Roanoke, Va.) was second in the women's 50-yard butterfly (:28.95). Sophomore Wilson Naff (Marion, Va.) took second in the men's 50-yard backstroke (:27.10).

Following Friday's competition against King and Mars Hill, the Wasps will return home for Senior Day on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m., against Ferrum College and Milligan College. E&H will conclude the regular season on Saturday, January 20 at Sweet Briar College as the women will take on the Vixens and the men will race against Hampden-Sydney College.

The 2018 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships are scheduled to take place on the weekend of Friday, February 9 through Sunday, February 11. For the seventh year in a row, the meet will be held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center on the site of the Greensboro Coliseum Complex.
