Carson-Newman Men’s & Women’s Swimming Take Down Emory & Henry Saturday Afternoon

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman University Men's & Women's Swimming Teams each grabbed wins against Emory & Henry College Saturday in a matchup of future South Atlantic Conference squads. The Eagles, ranked 14th in the country won by a 143-39 score on the men's side while the T-No. 8 Lady Eagles came away with a 137-36 victory.

The Men
- Freshman Corey Kidd (Stockbridge, Ga.) was third in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of :22.27 and took fourth in the 100-free (:49.70).
- Freshman Kyle Berry (Ringgold, Ga.) placed third in the 100-yard backstroke (:56.35) and was fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (:23.24).
- Freshman Matthew Gocke (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) clocked a 1:52.88 in the 200-yard freestyle to take third as freshman Morgan Cassell (Hubert, N.C.) touched the wall third in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:06.43.
- The Wasps closed out the meet with a runner-up finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Berry, Kidd, junior Ryan Spangler (Daleville, Va.) and freshman Aiden Quertermous (Awendaw, S.C.) stopped the watches in 1:33.77.

The Women
- Freshman Paige Gelenski (Boca Raton, Fla.) won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:03.21. She was also third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:43.14) and fourth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:26.35).
- Freshman Peyton Helscher (Simi Valley, Calif.) was third in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:12.75 and fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:51.45).
- Freshman Tilly Craddock (Christiansburg, Va.) finished third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:07.61) and was fourth in the 50-yard freestyle in :28.00.
- Senior Cat Sweigart (Bridgewater, Va.) took third in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:01.21 and was fourth in the 200-free (2:15.93) and the 100-breast (1:16.78).
- E&H's 200-yard freestyle relay of freshman Alyssa Price (Clintwood, Va.), freshman Rachel Ritter (Gibsonville, N.C.), Helscher and Craddock was third at 1:57.09.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry will remain on the road next Saturday when it visits King (Tenn.) University. The Wasps will also face Lenoir-Rhyne University as part of the tri-meet.
