Emory & Henry Women’s Swimming Remains Eighth After Day Three Of Bluegrass Mountain Championships

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Men's & Women's Swimming Teams competed in their third of four days at the 2022 Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships Saturday. The men solidified their seventh-place spot while the women remain in eighth. The men's team saw another three school records fall on the day.

The Women
- Event 19 – 500-Yard Freestyle – Freshman Tilly Craddock (Christiansburg, Va.) was 28th in the preliminaries with a time of 5:26.63 while freshman Peyton Helscher (Simi Valley, Calif.) was 29th and freshman Paige Gelenski (Boca Raton, Fla.) was 33rd.
- Event 21 – 100-Yard Backstroke – Freshman Danyelle Dukes (Center Point, Ala.) went a 1:15.59 in the prelims to take 26th to finish as the second alternate.
- Event 23 – 100-Yard Breaststroke – Freshman Rachel Ritter (Gibsonville, N.C.) and senior Cat Sweigart (Bridgewater, Va.) were 19th and 21st in the morning session, respectively, qualifying for finals. Ritter finished 20th with a time of 1:11.90 while Sweigart was 21st in 1:11.93. Freshman Alyssa Price (Clintwood, Va.) was 28th in prelims.
- Event 25 – 200-Yard Butterfly – Gelenski qualified for finals with a 16th-place swim in the morning session and held her spot in finals, swimming a 2:15.39.
- Event 27 – 800-Yard Freestyle Relay – The Wasps finished eighth with a time of 8:25.08 on the efforts of Gelenski, Helscher, Ritter and Craddock.

The Men
- Event 20 – 500-Yard Freestyle – Freshmen Payton Nabors (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and Matthew Gocke (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) qualified for finals in 19th and 20th, place respectively. Gocke took 19th with a school-record time of 4:50.19 while Nabors finished 21st. Seniors Logan Smith (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Blake Madaris (Acworth, Ga.) were the two alternates as they finished 25th and 26th in prelims.
- Event 22 – 100-Yard Backstroke – Freshman Corey Kidd (Stockbridge, Ga.) was 16th in prelims and tied for 14th during his finals swim with a time of :52.47. Freshman Kyle Berry (Ringgold, Ga.) qualified 17th for finals while freshman Hector Rodriguez (Easley, S.C.) was 22nd in prelims and 20th after finals. Madaris had a 23rd-best qualifying swim and took 22nd overall.
- Event 24 – 100-Yard Breaststroke – Freshman Morgan Cassell (Hubert, N.C.) was 22nd in prelims while freshman Conor Douthat (Bluefield, Va.) was 24th, as both qualified for finals. Cassell went a 1:02.92 in finals to finish 22nd as Douthat completed the event in 24th. Smith was 25th in the morning session to finish as the first alternate.
- Event 26 – 200-Yard Butterfly – Nabors was 16th in prelims with a school-record time of 1:59.33 and completed the event in 16th place.
- Event 28 – 800-Yard Freestyle Relay – Gocke, freshman Andrew Boggus (Virginia Beach, Va.), Nabors and freshman Aiden Quertermous (Awendaw, S.C.) broke the school record with a time of 7:23.89 to finish in seventh place.
