Emory & Henry Women’s Swimming Finishes Eighth At The Bluegrass Mountain Championships

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Men's & Women's Swimming Teams concluded the 2021-22 season at the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships on Sunday. The Wasps' men were seventh in the meet while the women were eighth.

The Women
- Event 29 – 1,650-Yard Freestyle – Freshman Peyton Helscher (Simi Valley, Calif.) was 17th with a time of 19:07.46.
- Event 31 – 100-Yard Freestyle – Freshman Tilly Craddock (Christiansburg, Va.) was 30th in the preliminaries at :56.05 while freshman Danyelle Dukes (Center Point, Ala.) was 41st and freshman Alyssa Price (Clintwood, Va.) was 44th.
- Event 33 – 200-Yard Backstroke – Helscher qualified for the finals with an 18th-place finish in the morning session and went a 2:20.87 to take 20th overall,
- Event 35 – 200-Yard Breaststroke – Senior Cat Sweigart (Bridgewater, Va.) was 17th in prelims and took 16th with a 2:38.22 while freshman Rachel Ritter (Gibsonville, N.C.) took 17th in the finals. Price was 23rd in preliminaries.
- Event 37 – 400-Yard Freestyle Relay – E&H put together a seventh-place relay to close out the meet as Craddock, freshman Paige Gelenski (Boca Raton, Fla.), Dukes and Sweigart touched the wall in 3:50.72.

The Men
- Event 30 – 1,650-Yard Freestyle – Freshman Matthew Gocke (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) broke the E&H record with a swim of 16:41.65 which was good for 13th overall,
- Event 32 – 100-Yard Freestyle – Freshman Corey Kidd (Stockbridge, Ga.) qualified 23rd for finals and finished 23rd overall with a time of :47.34. Junior Ryan Spangler (Daleville, Va.) (31st), junior Antonio Walters (Elon, N.C.) (32nd), freshman Conor Douthat (Bluefield, Va.) (35th) and freshman Hector Rodriguez (Easley, S.C.) (36th) also competed in the preliminaries.
- Event 34 – 200-Yard Backstroke – Freshman Aiden Quertermous (Awendaw, S.C.), Rodriguez and senior Blake Madaris (Acworth, Ga.) all qualified for finals and finished 17th, 18th and 19th respectively. Quertermous led the way in 2:04.26.
- Event 36 – 200-Yard Breaststroke – Freshman Morgan Cassell (Hubert, N.C.) qualified for finals with a 24th-place finish and was 24th in finals at 2:25.59. Douthat was the first alternate after finishing 26th in prelims.
- Event 38 – 400-Yard Freestyle Relay – Quertermous, freshman Payton Nabors (Lawrenceville, Ga.), freshman Kyle Berry (Ringgold, Ga.) and Kidd broke the E&H record as they finished sixth with a time of 3:14.73.
