Emory & Henry Women’s Swimming Places Sixth At Denison Invitational

GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Emory & Henry College Women's Swimming Team competed in its midseason invitational for the 2023-24 over the weekend, finishing sixth at the Denison Invitational. The Wasps competed in a field comprised of elite NCAA Division II and Division III programs as well as one mid-major Division I squad.

Thursday
- Event 1 – 200-Yard Freestyle Relay – Sophomore Mackenzie Barnett (Monroe Township, N.J.), sophomore Jill Koler (Manassas, Va.), junior Paige Gelenski (Boca Raton, Fla.) and junior Hope Christensen (Moroni, Utah) finished 11th with a time of 1:42,71.
- Event 3 – 500-Yard Freestyle – Barnett was 32nd in the preliminaries in 5:20.24 while sophomore Gabby Sadosky (Las Vegas, Nev.), junior Peyton Helscher (Simi Valley, Calif.) sophomore Maggie Robinson (Canton, Ga.), freshman Jaxon Thurman (Ooltewah, Tenn.), freshman Madison Graham (Radford, Va.), sophomore Vivian Vanderpool (Elgin, Okla.), and sophomore Bri Digby (Carrollton, Va.) also competed.
- Event 5 – 200-Yard Individual Medley – Sophomore Samantha Pepevnik (Porsgrunn, NORWAY) placed 33rd (2:11.84) in the preliminaries as Gelenski was 48th, Christensen was 50th, Koler was 51st and junior Rachel Ritter (Gibsonville, N.C.) was 52nd.
- Event 7 – 50-Yard Freestyle – Christensen took 30th in the preliminaries at :24.51 as Barnett tied for 52nd, Robinson was 61st, and Koler was 62nd.
- Event 9 – 400-Yard Medley Relay – Pepevnik, Ritter, Gelenski and Barnett swam a 4:08.51 to finish 10th while the Wasps' "B" relay of Christensen, Koler, Helscher and Robinson was 11th.

Friday
- Event 11 - 200-Yard Medley Relay
– Pepevnik, Ritter, Gelenski and Christensen were 11th, clocking a 1:53.95 with the "B" relay was 12th led by Thurman, Koler, Graham and Barnett.
- Event 13 - 400-Yard Individual Medley – Pepevnik took 15th with a time of 4:40.85 as Gelenski was 22nd and Ritter was 23rd.
- Event 15 – 100-Yard Butterfly – Gelenski was 35th in the preliminaries at 1:00.42 while Vanderpool came in 40th.
- Event 17 – 200-Yard Freestyle – Barnett placed 27th at 1:58.00. Sadosky (43rd), Helscher (45th), Robinson (46th), Graham (47th), Vanderpool (48th) and Digby (49th) swam in the prelims.
- Event 19 – 100-Yard Breaststroke – Christensen finished 26th at 1:12.31 while Ritter was 27th. Koler and Thurman were 31st and 32nd in the preliminaries, respectively.
- Event 21 – 100-Yard Backstroke – Pepevnik was 33rd in the prelims at 1:00.86 while Christensen, Helscher and Thurman took 38th through 40th.
- Event 23 – 800-Yard Freestyle Relay – Christensen, Gelenski, Sadosky, and Barnett swam a 8:17.85 to take sixth.

Saturday
- Event 25 – 1,650-Yard Freestyle – Helscher led E&H swimming a 19:25.27 to finish 21st while Robinson was 22nd, Graham was 23rd and Thurman was 24th.
- Event 27 – 200-Yard Backstroke – Pepevnik took 20th, swimming a 2:07.68 to break the school record by .09 seconds, while Helscher placed 24th.
- Event 29 – 100-Yard Freestyle – Barnett was 40th in the preliminaries at :54.92. Christensen, Robinson, Koler, Sadosky, Thurman, Graham, Vanderpool and Digby also competed.
- Event 31 – 200-Yard Breaststroke – Ritter was the first alternate, finishing 29th in the prelims at 2:38.06 while Koler placed 30th and Christensen 31st.
- Event 33 – 200-Yard Butterfly – Gelenski took 26th at 2:13.81 with Pepevnik, Sadosky and Graham finishing 30th-32nd in the preliminaries.
- Event 35 – 400-Yard Freestyle Relay – Barnett, Gelenksi, Thurman and Christensen were 11th, touching the wall in 3:47.92. The "B" relay was 12th in the preliminaries.
