Emory & Henry Women’s Tennis Blanks Mary Baldwin, 9-0, Wednesday On The Road

STAUNTON, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Tennis Team (2-1) opened the spring portion of its schedule on Wednesday afternoon as it picked up a 9-0 victory over Mary Baldwin College (0-1). The Wasps outscored the Fighting Squirrels, 96-4, over the course of the match.

E&H got out to a 3-0 lead after the doubles portion of the match. Junior Alyssa Wingate (Independence, Va.) and freshman Taylor Evans (Gate City, Va.) won, 8-1 at the number one flight.

The teams of junior Emily Bolt (Independence, Va.) and freshman Meredith Yeary (Knoxville, Tenn.) (No. 2) and junior Casey Blackburn (Richmond, Va.) and sophomore Sheyenne Cleveland (Rural Retreat, Va.) (No. 3) each won, 8-0 in their doubles matches.

In singles, Evans (number two), Cleveland (number five) and Blackburn (number six) each won their matches by (6-0, 6-0) scores as the Wasps swept the singles competition.

Emory & Henry will travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., on Saturday to face the Spirits of Salem College. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m.
