Emory & Henry Women's Tennis Takes Down Shenandoah, 7-2, Saturday

EMORY, Va. - The Emory & Henry Women's Tennis Team (8-10, 3-7 ODAC) won five singles matches en route to a 7-2 victory over Shenandoah University (6-8, 1-8 ODAC) Saturday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.

The Wasps got out to a 2-1 lead after the doubles portion of the match. Juniors Emily Bolt (Independence, Va.) and Casey Blackburn (Richmond, Va.) picked up an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles while junior Alyssa Wingate (Independence, Va.) and Taylor Evans (Weber City, Va.) claimed an 8-5 win at the top doubles flight.

Wingate got things started with a 6-1, 6-0 decision at the premier singles matchup while Evans won by a 6-2, 6-3 score at No. 2 singles. Freshman Meredith Yeary (Knoxville, Tenn.) won a hard-fought match 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) at the three spot.

Bolt blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0 and Blackburn took home a 6-0, 6-3 win at five and six singles, respectively.

Emory & Henry will conclude the regular season on Sunday afternoon when it travels to face Bridgewater College at 2:00 p.m.
