Emory & Henry Women’s Tennis Blanks Ferrum, 7-0, To Open Fall Season

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Tennis Team (1-0) opened the fall portion of its season Sunday afternoon with a 7-0 victory over Ferrum College (0-1) at Richardson Tennis Courts. The victory marked the first for Head Coach Jessica Giuggioli, who is in her first season at the helm of the Wasps' program.

Senior Alyssa Wingate (Independence, Va.) and sophomore Meredith Yeary (Knoxville, Tenn.) won at the top doubles flight and the No. 1 and No. 3 singles pairings. Senior Emily Bolt (Independence, Va.) and sophomore Taylor Evans (Weber City, Va.) claimed the win at No. 2 doubles while Evans blanked her opponent at No. 2 singles.

Freshman Lauren Riner (Coeburn, Va.) earned the win in her match at the fourth singles flight while Bolt won at No. 5 singles.

The third doubles and sixth singles flights were not played due to neither team having six players active.

Emory & Henry will host Southern Virginia University on Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
