Emory & Henry Women's Tennis Downs Maryville, 6-3, Tuesday

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Emory & Henry College Women's Tennis Team wrapped up the fall portion of its season on Tuesday afternoon with a 6-3 victory over Maryville (Tenn.) College. With the win, the Wasps move to 3-0 on the year.

The Scots got out to a 2-1 lead after the doubles portion of the match. E&H got its point at the No. 1 flight as senior Alyssa Wingate (Independence, Va.) and sophomore Meredith Yeary (Knoxville, Tenn.) won by an 8-5 score.

Emory & Henry sealed the match with five singles wins. Wingate won the premier match by a 6-0, 6-3 score while sophomore Taylor Evans (Weber City, Va.) blanked her opponent, (6-0, 6-0). Senior Emily Bolt (Independence, Va.) won at No. 5 singles, (6-1, 6-0) while Yeary and freshman Lauren Riner (Coeburn, Va.) picked up their victories with third-set retirements by their opponents.

With the fall portion of their season complete, the Wasps will have to wait until February to put their undefeated record to the test again. Emory & Henry will host Salem College on Saturday, February 22 at 2:00 p.m., at Richardson Tennis Courts.
