Emory & Henry Women’s Tennis Keeps Rolling, 7-2, Over Salem Saturday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Tennis Team (5-0) remained perfect on the year after a 7-2 win over Salem College (0-1) Saturday afternoon at Richardson Tennis Courts. The match was the home opener for the spring portion of the Wasps' season.

E&H got out to a 2-1 lead after the doubles portion of the match. Freshman Stella Di Michele (San Remo, ITALY) and sophomore Taylor Evans (Weber City, Va.) picked up an 8-0 win at the No. 1 doubles pairing while senior Alyssa Wingate (Independence, Va.) and sophomore Meredith Yeary (Knoxville, Tenn.) won, 8-2, at the second doubles flight.

In singles play, both Evans and Yeary blanked their opponents, 6-0 6-0, at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively. Di Michele won at the featured singles match, 6-0 6-3, while Wingate claimed a 6-3 6-0 win at No. 2 singles. Freshman Lauren Riner (Coeburn, Va.) won her No. 5 singles match, 6-0 6-2.

Salem's only two points of the match came at number three doubles and number six singles as the Wasps were unable to fill those matches.

Emory & Henry will remain at home on Tuesday when it hosts Mary Baldwin College. First serve is set for 4:00 p.m.
