Emory & Henry Women’s Tennis Too Much For Mary Baldwin, 7-2, Tuesday Afternoon At Home

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Tennis Team (6-0) made easy work of Mary Baldwin College (0-1) Tuesday afternoon at Richardson Tennis Courts. The Wasps notched a 7-2 win over the Fighting Squirrels, winning at every position where they competed.

E&H switched things up during the doubles portion of the match. Senior Alyssa Wingate (Independence, Va.) and sophomore Meredith Yeary (Knoxville, Tenn.) moved up to the No. 1 doubles spot and earned an 8-2 win. Freshman Stella Di Michele (San Remo, ITALY) and sophomore Taylor Evans (Weber City, Va.) blanked their opponents at the number two flight.

In singles play, Di Michele (No. 1), Evans (No. 3), Yeary (No. 4) and freshman Lauren Riner (Coeburn, Va.) each won their matches 6-0, 6-0. Wingate was nearly perfect dropping only one game 6-0, 6-1 at the second singles flight.

Mary Baldwin's only two points of the match came at number three doubles and number six singles as the Wasps were unable to fill those matches.

Emory & Henry will close its three-match homestand on Sunday afternoon as it opens Old Dominion Athletic Conference play. The Wasps will take on the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College in a doubleheader with the men's team at noon.
