Wittenberg Women’s Tennis Defeats Emory & Henry, 7-2, Monday Afternoon

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Wittenberg University Women's Tennis Team was put to the test but came away with a 7-2 win over Emory & Henry College (6-2) Monday afternoon at the Hilton Head Motor Coach Resort.

The Tigers claimed all three doubles points but had to fight as the No. 1 doubles team of senior Alyssa Wingate (Independence, Va.) and sophomore Meredith Yeary (Knoxville, Tenn.) came up just short, 9-7. Freshmen Stella Di Michele (San Remo, ITALY) and Lauren Riner (Coeburn, Va.) suffered an 8-6 loss at the second doubles flight.

Di Michele redeemed herself with a 6-0 6-1 win at the premier singles pairing. Wingate also won in singles, picking up a 6-2 6-1 win at the No. 2 spot. Yeary nearly made it three singles points for the Wasps as she battled back from a first set loss to force a 10-point super-tiebreak, but fell 10-8.

Emory & Henry will have Tuesday off and will next take the court on Wednesday afternoon when it faces off against Ohio Wesleyan University at 1:00 p.m.
