Shenandoah Women’s Tennis Slips Past Emory & Henry, 5-4, Sunday Afternoon

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University Women's Tennis Team (6-1, 2-1 ODAC) came from behind to earn a 5-4 win over visiting Emory & Henry College (6-6, 0-4 ODAC) Sunday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.

The Wasps took a 2-1 lead after the doubles portion of the match. Freshmen Stella Di Michele (San Remo, ITALY) and Lauren Riner (Coeburn, Va.) won by an 8-3 score at the top doubles flight while senior Alyssa Wingate (Independence, Va.) and sophomore Meredith Yeary (Knoxville, Tenn.) claimed an 8-6 victory at No. 2 doubles.

Emory & Henry went up 4-3, earning the first two points of singles play. Di Michele blanked her opponent, 6-0 6-0, at the premier singles pairing while Wingate won after her opponent retired three games into the first set.

The Hornets got wins at three and four singles to earn the fifth and deciding point of the match.

Emory & Henry will next take the court on Friday when it travels to face the WildCats of Randolph College. First serve for the ODAC contest is set for 3:30 p.m.
