Emory & Henry Women’s Tennis Hollins, 5-4, Friday Afternoon

ROANOKE, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Tennis Team (8-8, 2-6 ODAC) made it two Old Dominion Athletic Conference wins in a row as it defeated Hollins University (0-11, 0-9 ODAC) by a 5-4 score Friday afternoon at the Batten Tennis Center.

Emory & Henry picked up one point during doubles play. Senior Alyssa Wingate (Independence, Va.) and sophomore Meredith Yeary (Knoxville, Tenn.) earned an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles. Freshmen Stella Di Michele (San Remo, ITALY) and Lauren Riner (Coeburn, Va.) came up just short, losing 9-8 (7-1) at the top pairing.

In singles play, the Wasps claimed the top four spots to seal the victory. Di Michele dropped only one game at the premier singles position, 6-1 6-0, while Wingate won by a score of 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Yeary blanked her opponent, 6-0 6-0, at the third spot while Riner registered a 6-1, 6-0 win at the fourth flight.

Emory & Henry will continue its road trip on Saturday when it travels to Lynchburg College for a 1:00 p.m., ODAC matchup with the Hornets.
