Emory & Henry Women’s Tennis Takes Down Lynchburg, 5-4, Saturday On The Road

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Tennis Team (9-8, 3-6 ODAC) made it three wins in a row as it defeated Lynchburg College (3-10, 2-9 ODAC) by a 5-4 score Saturday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.

The Wasps took a 2-1 lead after the doubles portion of the match. Freshmen Stella Di Michele (San Remo, ITALY) and Lauren Riner (Coeburn, Va.) picked up an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles while senior Alyssa Wingate (Independence, Va.) and sophomore Meredith Yeary (Knoxville, Tenn.) won, 8-2, at the second doubles flight.

In singles play, E&H claimed the top three flights to seal the match. Di Michele, the reigning ODAC Player of the Week, made easy work of her opponent at No.1 singles, winning 6-0, 6-1. Wingate won her match at the second singles flight by a 6-1, 6-0 score while Yeary notched a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles.

Emory & Henry will remain on the road on Sunday when it takes on Bridgewater College. First serve for the ODAC contest with the Eagles is set for 2:00 p.m.
