Emory & Henry Women’s Tennis Excels At Methodist Invitational Over The Weekend

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Tennis Team concluded the fall portion of its schedule this weekend as it played in the Methodist University Invitational.

Sophomore Stella Di Michele (San Remo, ITALY) led the way as she won all four of her singles matches to claim the Main Draw Championship. She defeated Roxanne Chouinard of Mount Olive College, 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) in the final.

Junior Chiara Mossi (Manduria, ITALY) was also in the main draw, and went 3-1 to win the second round consolation draw. Mossi took down Mount Olive's Francesca Ceppi by a 6-3, 6-1 score in her last match to finish fifth.

After losing her first round match in the #4 singles flight, sophomore Lauren Riner (Coeburn, Va.) picked up two wins to take the first round consolation draw. She defeated Rebecca Havens of Bluefield College, 6-2, 6-1, in the final.

In doubles play, Di Michele and Mossi won their two matches on Friday to set up the championship contest against Chouinard and Ceppi. The competition was tight with the duo from Mount Olive coming away with an 8-6 victory.

With the fall schedule completed, Emory & Henry will next take the court on Sunday, February 22 when it travels to Winston-Salem, N.C., for a non-conference match against Salem College. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m.
