Emory, Va. – The Wasps women's tennis team (2-2, 1-2 ODAC) split their doubleheader matchup vs. Lynchburg College and Randolph College Sunday afternoon. First, the Wasps defeated the Hornets of Lynchburg College (0-7, 0-5 ODAC) 5-0 in a match to decision. The victory was the Wasps first ODAC win of the season. Following the win, E&H fell to Randolph College (5-2, 2-0 ODAC), 5-1.
Match One - Emory & Henry 5, Lynchburg 0
At one doubles Stella Di Michele (San Remo, ITALY) and Danielle Amoruso (Orange County, Va.) defeated their counterparts 8-4. While the pairing Lauren Riner (Coburn, Va.) and Sheyenne Cleveland (Rural Retreat, Va.) won by a score of 8-3 in their first grouping together.
Due to Lynchburg forfeiting matches at three doubles and six singles, Di Michele was the only Wasp to finish her singles match. She won convincingly 6-0, 6-1.
Match Two - Randolph 5, Emory & Henry 1
The Wasps started slow in doubles, losing all three matches. Both of the top two doubles teams lost by a score of 8-3. Kala Curtis (Locust Groves, Va.) and Alyssa Lambert (Pulaski, Va.) did not fair much better, falling at the number three doubles slot 8-2.
Di Michele provided the one bright spot, winning at one singles 6-1, 6-0. Her overall individual record improved to 9-2 on the season. Cleveland was defeated 6-1, 6-1 at the two spot. While Curtis' 6-0, 6-0 loss sealed the team's overall defeat.
The Wasps next match is Saturday, April 4th vs. Guilford at 1 p.m.
