Bridgewater College Tops E&H Women's Tennis, 8-1, Sunday Afternoon

Emory, Va. – The Emory & Henry women's tennis team (2-5, 1-5 ODAC) faced off against the Bridgewater College Eagles (7-5, 6-2 ODAC) Sunday afternoon at Richardson Tennis Courts.  The Wasps ended up dropping their third straight match with the 8-1 loss.

Lauren Riner (Coeburn, Va.) and Sheyenne Cleveland (Rural Retreat, Va.) started the day off with an 8-1 loss at one doubles.  At two doubles, Stella Di Michele (San Remo, ITALY) and Danielle Amoruso (Orange County, Va.) fought hard for their 8-6 victory.  The win marks the second victory on the season for the formidable pairing.  Kala Curtis (Locust Groves, Va.) and Alyssa Lambert (Pulaski, Va.) unfortunately lost at the three spot, 8-0.

Already down 2-1 after doubles, the Wasps took the courts for singles play.  At the first flight, Di Michele lost in a tough match, 6-2, 6-3. Di Michele's opponent, Maria Hawkins, is currently #21 in the South Atlantic Region rankings.  Riner also lost during her singles match by a score of 6-1, 6-1.  At three, Cleveland fell 6-1, 6-2.  Amoruso played well, but lost 6-1, 6-3. Curtis was defeated at five singles 6-0, 6-0.  Lambert, at six singles, also fell 6-0, 6-0 in the last match of the afternoon.

In the Wasps next match, the team will travel Sweet Briar, Va. on Wednesday, April 15th to take on the Vixens of Sweet Briar College. The match is set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
