Emory & Henry Women's Tennis Falls to Hollins, 8-1, Thursday Evening

Emory, Va. – The Emory & Henry women's tennis team (2-7, 1-7 ODAC) lost 8-1 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference match vs. Hollins University (6-9, 4-5 ODAC) Thursday evening.  The loss is the team's fifth straight.

At one doubles, Lauren Riner (Coeburn, Va.) and Danielle Amoruso (Orange County, Va.) fell 8-1 to Hollins top flight. Sheyenne Cleveland (Rural Retreat, Va.) and Kala Curtis (Locust Groves, Va.) also dropped their match, 8-0. The team lost at three doubles by default, which completed the sweep for Hollins in doubles.

Riner took to the court at the top flight for E&H. The sophomore ended up losing 6-1, 6-0. Cleveland, at the two spot, was down early in her match 0-6.  In the second set, Cleveland turned it on, winning 6-4 to force a third set.  In the third set, the senior won 10-8 in a thrilling tiebreaker.  The victory was the Wasps lone victory of the match.  Amoruso lost 6-2, 6-2.  At four singles, Curtis was only able to win one game in each set, while losing to her opponent, 6-1, 6-1.  Alyssa Lambert (Pulaski, Va.) lost in the final match of the day 6-1, 6-1.

The Wasps' next match is on Saturday, April 18  versus Shenandoah.
