FOREST, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Tennis Team picked up the #5 seed for the upcoming Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament, ODAC officials announced Monday. The league's postseason pairings were released with the conclusion of regular season play.
Emory & Henry reaches the postseason for the second time in three years and only the fifth time since the conference went to a team dual championship format in 2007. The Wasps' #5 seed is the second-highest in program history next to the fourth seed earned in 2009.
The Wasps (10-6) finished in a tie for fourth place with Lynchburg College (12-8) during the regular season at 6-4. LC claimed the fourth seed via its 5-4 win over E&H on Friday, March 25. The two teams will square off again on Saturday on the Lynchburg campus.
In the regular season meeting between the Wasps and Hornets, the Emory & Henry pair of freshman Sveva Mazzari (San Remo, ITALY) and junior Savanna Summers (Bluff City, Tenn.) earned an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles.
During singles play, Mazzari blanked her opponent at the featured singles pairing - 6-0, 6-0. Summers and freshman Katie Meade (Coeburn, Va.) picked up a pair of three-set wins at No. 3 and No. 5 singles, respectively.
The winner of Saturday's quarterfinal match will face off against the winner of #1 Washington and Lee University vs. #8 Shenandoah University next on Saturday, May 7 at W&L. The ODAC title match will be on Sunday, May 8, also on the Washington and Lee campus.
