Emory & Henry Women's Tennis Falls in ODAC Semifinals to No. 15 Washington and Lee, 5-0, Saturday

Lexington, Va. - In the semifinals of the ODAC Tournament, the Emory & Henry women's tennis team (11-7, 6-4 ODAC) fell, 5-0, to No. 15 Washington and Lee (17-5, 10-0 ODAC).  Despite the loss, the 2015-16 season was one of the more successful ones in recent history.

The match started off with an 8-1 loss at one doubles.  Sveva Mazzari (San Remo, ITALY) and Savanna Summers finished the season at 12-3 as doubles partners this season. The duo of Lauren Riner (Coeburn, Va.) and Kaitlyn Sheaves (Staunton, Va.) fell, 8-0, at two doubles. At three doubles, Ana-Belen Gomez (Irving, Texas) and Katie Meade (Coeburn, Va.) went down, 8-0, as well.

At two singles, Riner lost, 6-0, 6-0.  At four singles, Gomez fell, 6-0, 6-0.

In her first ranked matchup, No. 12 Mazzari faced off against No. 3 Brooke Donnelly.  Both are ranked in Atlantic South Region by the NCAA.  Mazzari was up 6-3, 3-0, before the outcome of the overall match was decided.  On May 11th, the field for the NCAA National Championships will be announced.  Mazzari is hoping to be selected to the field.
