Emory & Henry Women's & Men's Tennis Teams Fall To LaGrange, 6-3 And 9-0, Friday Evening

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – On Friday evening, both the men's and women's tennis teams played in their first match in a three-day, three-match match trip this weekend. Both teams took on LaGrange College. The women (2-5, 0-1 ODAC) played in a great match, but ultimately fell, 6-3, on Friday. The men (1-5, 0-1 ODAC) suffered a 9-0 loss on the day.

WOMEN

Doubles
-Lauren Riner (Coeburn, Va.) and Savanna Summers (Bluff City, Tenn.) played tough at one doubles, but took a 8-4 loss.
- At two doubles, Liz Graham (Bristol, Va.) and Ana-Belen Gomez (San Antonio, Texas) took a tough 8-3 loss as a tandem.
-Kaitlyn Sheaves (Staunton, Va.) and Katie Meade (Coeburn,, Va.) were defeated at three doubles, 8-4. 

Singles
-Riner fell at one singles, 6-2, 7-5.
-Graham earned the first victory of the day for the Wasps, winning at two doubles, 6-1, 7-6.
-Summers kept the wins coming at three singles, beating her opponent, 7-6, 6-3.
-Gomez dropped her match, 6-0, 6-2, at four singles
-Meade was unable to get a win in a heartbreaking three-set match for the Wasps, falling, 4-6, 6-2, 10-7.
-Sheaves earned the final victory for the Wasps at six singles in a 6-0, 6-1 walkover.

MEN

Doubles
-Dalton Shipley (Gate City, Va.) and Luke Funkhouser (Gate City, Va.) fell at one doubles, 8-2.
-Liam Davidson (Newport News, Va.) and Andrew McClung (Roanoke, Va.) paired up together at two doubles, but saw the same fate as the one doubles pair.
-Cooper Garrett (Gate City, Va.) and James Watson-Dare (Charlotte, N.C.) dropped their match, 8-6, at three doubles. 

Singles
-Funkhouser played an instant classic at one singles for the Wasps. However, the senior fell 6-4, 6-7, 10-8.
-Shipley was beat, 6-0, 6-1, at two singles.
-At three singles, McClung was shut out, 6-0, 6-0.
-Davidson, unfortunately, did not fare much better as he lost, 6-1, 6-0.
-Watson-Dare lost a five singles, 6-1, 6-1.
-At six, Garrett went down 6-4, 6-0.

UP NEXT
Both of the Wasp tennis teams will stay on the road this weekend as both take on Covenant on Saturday at 5 p.m.
