EMORY, Va. - The Emory & Henry women's team (1-1) picked up their first win of the season Saturday. The Wasps victory came after a 6-3 win over Averett University (1-1). It is the first win under new coach Christine Johnston. The Wasps will head into their Spring season with the feeling of getting that first win in the books.
Doubles
- Bri Pierce (Purlear, N.C.) and Tessa Johnston (High Point, N.C.) were shut out at one doubles, 8-0.
- Katie Meade (Coeburn, Va.) and Kaitlyn Sheaves (Staunton, Va.) picked up a critical 8-1 victory at two doubles.
- Kala Curtis (Locust Grove, Va.) and Kelsey Holt (Staffordsville, Va.) played in a hard fought match and came out the victors in an 8-6 thriller.
Singles
- Meade took a tough 6-0, 6-0 loss at one singles.
- Sheaves picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win at two singles.
- Curtis lost at three singles, 6-1, 6-2.
- Johnston picked up her first career singles win at four singles, 6-1, 6-1.
- Pierce sealed the victory with a 6-1, 6-0 win at five singles.
- Holt took her opponent to a third set, but came out triumphant in a 6-1, 1-6, 10-7 thriller.
The Wasps fall season has come to an end, but the team will back the rackets back up next semester.
