Tennis Teams Defeated At Shenandoah In ODAC Matchup, 5-4 and 9-0, Saturday Afternoon

WINCHESTER, Va. - Both the Emory & Henry men's tennis team (1-8, 0-4 ODAC) and women's tennis team (2-6, 0-3 ODAC) traveled to Shenandoah University for an ODAC matchup. The long journey to Winchester did not come with result that the teams wanted, but both squads played hard. The men dropped their match 9-0 on the day, while the women clawed their way to a 5-4 defeat.

Men's Doubles

The number one and three duos fell in straight sets, 8-0. At two doubles, Cooper Garrett (Gate City, Va.) and Liam Davidson (Newport News, Va.) were able to pick up two wins. However, the tandem lost 8-2.

Women's Doubles

Women''s doubles was hotly contested all day. The pair at one doubles took a tough 8-4 loss. Bri Pierce (Purlear, N.C.) and Tessa Johnston (High Point, N.C.) continue to be a budding pair at two doubles. The two defeated their opponents, 8-2. Three doubles stretched their opponents to the brink, but the squad lost, 8-6.

Men's Singles

At one singles, sophomore Grayson McCarty (Marion, Va.) fell, 6-0, 6-1. As did Dalton Shipley (Gate City, Va.) at two doubles. Three and four singles fell while winning one game and two games, respectively. At five singles, Andrew McClung (Roanoke, Va.) was able to win two games in each set, but fell, 6-2, 6-2. Six singles was shut out in straight sets. 

Women's Singles

Meade and Sheaves were not able to pick up victories at one and two singles. Johnston, the dual sport athlete, brought her winning ways to the tennis court after basketball season ended. She picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win at three singles. Pierce won, 6-4, 6-2, at five singles.  Senior Kala Curtis (Locust Grove, Va.) took her opponent to the third set. Curtis outlasted her counterpart in the long run winning, 6-3, 2-6, 10-3. The Wasps fell at the six singles.

Next Matches

Both teams travel to Roanoke on Monday, April 2nd for another doubleheader.
