Emory & Henry Women's Tennis Upsets Virginia Wesleyan, 5-4, Saturday In ODAC Opener

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Emory & Henry College Women's Tennis Team (5-0, 1-0 ODAC) got the spring portion of its season off to a strong start Saturday with a 5-4 upset victory over Virginia Wesleyan University (0-1, 0-1 ODAC). The Marlins were picked to finish fourth in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference this year while the Wasps were tabbed ninth in the poll.

How It Happened
- The Marlins took a 2-1 lead after doubles play but senior Bri Pierce (Purlear, N.C.) and freshman Cailie Pollard (Rural Retreat, Va.) earned an 8-5 victory at the third flight.
- Senior Vanna Summers (Bluff City, Tenn.) won at No. 3 singles while freshman Logan Graham (Radford, Va.) and Pollard picked up the victory at No. 4 and No. 6, respectively.
- Pierce clinched the match for the Wasps with a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles.
