Emory & Henry Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season At Phoenix Invitational Friday

Scarlett Eversley clears a hurdle

ELON, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Outdoor Track & Field Teams got the outdoor season started in strong fashion Friday at the Phoenix Invitational, hosted by Elon University. The men's team broke five records on the day while the women's squad broke a pair of records while establishing two additional program-best marks.

Top Men's Performances
- Sophomore Tyrique Taylor (Christiansburg, Va.) posted a third-place finish as he broke the E&H shot put record with a throw of 15.04 meters.
- Sophomore Matthew Klapak (Zion Crossroads, Va.) was sixth in the 5,000 meters with a new school-best time of 15:40.24 while freshman Justin Williams (Suffolk, Va.) ran a 15.43 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles to take ninth and set a new program record.
- Freshman Drew Craft (Covington, Va.) was eighth in the long jump, setting a new mark of 6.38 meters while junior Colby Davenport (Loves Mill, Va.) threw the javelin 37.20 meters to place 16th with a new school record.
- In the 800 meters, freshman Heath Bowker (Salem, Va.) placed eighth in 1:59.61 with junior Aaron Wilson (Chester, Va.) taking ninth.
- Freshman Nour Nabi (Lake Ridge, Va.) took 10th in the 400-meter hurdles, stopping the watches in 1:00.83.
- The 2,000-meter steeplechase saw the Wasps put three runners in the top 10, led by freshman Davis Norman (Salem, Va.) in 6:48.91. Freshman Caeden Bowker (Salem, Va.) was sixth and redshirt freshman Justin Owens (Grundy, Va.) was eighth.

Women's Top Performances
- Sophomore Delaney Eller (Salem, Va.) broke her own record in the 1,500 meters by more than eight seconds, running a 4:52.64 to finish seventh. She was also eighth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:48.21.
- Sophomore Elise McKinney (Church Hill, Tenn.) was the runner-up in the 2,000-meter steeplechase, stopping the watches in 8:28.35.
- Sophomore Scarlett Eversley (Dumfries, Va.) established the E&H record in the triple jump as she leaped 10.56 meters to place eighth. She was also eighth in the 100-meter hurdles at 15.67 seconds.
- In the 400-meter hurdles, sophomore Madison Ricketts (Kingsport, Tenn.) was the runner-up in 1:07.39 with freshman Adrianna Hall (Salem, Va.) taking 10th.
- Freshman Ella Knight (Graham, N.C.) etched her name in the record book, setting the school mark in the long jump at 4.83 meters, placing 23rd.
- The relay of Ricketts, Eversley, sophomore Alyssa Chappell (Church Hill, Tenn.) and Knight ran a :52.58 in the 4x100 meters to take 10th.
