Emory & Henry Volleyball Splits A Pair Of Matches Saturday

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team moved to 5-3 on the season Saturday as it split a pair of contests at Meredith College's Quad Match. The Wasps defeated Methodist University (5-1), by a 3-1 score and suffered a 3-1 defeat to host school Meredith College (6-3).

Emory & Henry 3, Methodist 1 – (22-25, 25-23, 25-17, 27-25)
After dropping the first to the Monarchs, the Wasps came back and won the next three frames to take the match. Though Emory & Henry hit just .182 for the contest, the Wasps tallied 15 service aces and eight blocks en route to the victory.

Junior outside hitter Jamie Cockerham (Galax, Va.) led all players with 17 kills while sophomore setter Fallon Davis (Mooresville, N.C.) had a team-high 32 assists and five service aces for E&H.

Junior outside hitter Morgan Grant (Abingdon, Va.) registered nine kills while sophomore middle hitter Nicole Tesh (Boone, N.C.) had five kills and four blocks. Senior libero Sam Lucado (Salem, Va.) registered a match-high 11 digs.

Methodist was led by Brittany McCoy and Jalesty Washington, who recorded 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Kayci Miller dished out a match-high 41 assists and had nine digs as well for the Monarchs.

Meredith 3, Emory & Henry 1 – (25-18, 21-25, 25-18, 25-19)
In the final contest of the night, Meredith put three players in double figures in kills and hit .271 (54-18-133) for the match as the Avenging Angels picked up the win. Emory & Henry only managed to attack at .175 (41-19-126) and were the victims of 12 Meredith service aces.

E&H was led by Grant with 14 kills while Cockerham had a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs. Davis and Lucado had match highs with 34 assists and 22 digs, respectively, and senior defensive specialist Selena Trichel (Hilton Head, S.C.) had 11 digs of her own.

Cori Spade notched 17 kills for the Avenging Angels and teammates Molly Markley (16 kills) and Anna Hayes (11 kills) both finished in double figures offensively. Clarke Glendenning and Kara Baughman split the setter's duties for Meredith, recording 23 and 17 assists, respectively. Emily Anderson led the team with 18 digs.

Emory & Henry will open Old Dominion Athletic Conference play on Tuesday evening when the Wasps take on the Hornets of Lynchburg College. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m.
