Emory & Henry Volleyball Blanks Hollins, 3-0, Wednesday At Home

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (8-1, 3-0 ODAC) remained undefeated in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play Wednesday evening as it defeated Hollins University (1-11, 0-3 ODAC) by a 3-0 score (25-14, 25-20, 25-14) at the John Rutledge King Center.

The Wasps got out to a 7-2 lead in the first set and never looked back. E&H hit .324 (15-4-34) for the frame with freshman outside hitter Hannah Doss (Meadowview, Va.) notching four kills.

In the second stanza, Emory & Henry and Hollins battled back and forth through 11 ties and five lead changes to go up 2-0 in the match. With the scored tied at 19, the Wasps scored six of the next seven points to take the set. Junior setter Maleah Neely (Hillsville, Va.) had a six-point serving run during to help E&H.

Emory & Henry dominated the third set and had five serving runs of three or more points. The Wasps also hit a match-high .345 (14-4-49) during the frame with senior middle Nicole Tesh (Boone, N.C.) going 5-0-7 (.714).

Tesh finished the match with 11 kills, hitting .556 and added three blocks and two aces. Doss and freshman outside hitter Tristen Pennington (Kingsport, Tenn.) each had nine kills. Neely finished the contest with 33 assists while freshman defensive specialist Emily Hinshaw (Boone, N.C.) had a team-high eight digs and three service aces.

Hollins was led by Rikki Martinez, who had six kills and added four digs. Lauren Hays had five kills while Lela Moore dished-out 15. Haley Ortiz notched a match-high 13 digs and had two service aces.

Emory & Henry will travel to Atlanta, Georgia this weekend to compete in the Emory Invitational. The Wasps will take on the #4 Eagles of Emory University, Maryville (Tenn.) College, Covenant College and Wellesley College during the two-day event.
