Emory & Henry Volleyball Splits A Pair Of Matches Saturday

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (10-8) split its two matches Saturday at a tri-match hosted by Bridgewater College. The Wasps began the day with an Old Dominion Athletic Conference contest against the Eagles and closed things out with a non-conference tie with the Panthers of Virginia Union University.

Bridgewater picked up a 3-1 (25-14, 18-25, 25-19, 25-16) win in ODAC play over Emory & Henry to start the day. The Eagles saw four players reach double figures in kills led by Megann Grimes, who had a match-high 13 kills. Abby Mills, Maddy Carter and Katie Long each had 11 kills of their own while Mills added five service aces.  Lindsay Kallam dished-out 38 assists and had 11 digs to complete the double-double.  Mara Hogan led all players with 24 assists.

Emory & Henry was paced by freshman outside hitter Tristen Pennington (Kingsport, Tenn.) with 12 kills and 16 digs while sophomore outside hitter Hannah Stewart (Boone, N.C.) had six kills and three blocks. Junior setter Maleah Neely (Hillsville, Va.) registered 25 assists and five kills while senior libero Kelly Mae Kerlin (Franklin, Tenn.) had 17 digs and three service aces.

Against Virginia Union, E&H got things going and won by a 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-15) score. Pennington had 10 kills while Stewart and freshman right side hitter Ashlea Giblin (Hendersonville, N.C.) each notched seven kills. Neely had 21 assists and freshman setter Autumn Roe (Bluff City, Tenn.) tallied 12 assists while Kerlin added 12 digs.

The Panthers were led by Kristin Madion's 10 kills while Esha Atkins notched 20 assists and 10 digs. Kierris Doyle and Allorie Sanders each had five kills.

E&H will remain on the road tomorrow afternoon when it travels to Staunton for a 1:00 p.m. contest with Mary Baldwin College.
