Emory & Henry Volleyball Dispatches Mary Baldwin, 3-0, Sunday Afternoon

STAUNTON, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (11-8) made easy work of Mary Baldwin College (0-19) Sunday afternoon as it came away with a 3-0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-15) at the Mary Baldwin Physical Activities Center. All 19 players on the Wasps' roster saw action in the victory.

Emory & Henry got out to a 6-2 lead in the first set thanks in part to three-straight service aces by senior middle Nicole Tesh (Boone, N.C.). The Wasps continued to increase their lead and ended the stanza with an eight-point scoring run. E&H attacked at a .733 percentage (11-0-15) for the set, not making an error.

The second frame was more of the same as the Wasps continued to overpower the Fighting Squirrels. Emory & Henry got a match-high 13 kills in the set led by freshman outside hitter Tristen Pennington's (Kingsport, Tenn.) four kills.

E&H sealed the match in the third set thanks to a seven-point serving run by senior libero Kelly Mae Kerlin (Franklin, Tenn.) and an eight-point run by freshman setter Sarah Swift (Mountain City, Tenn.). Kerlin had three aces in the set including the match-winning point.

Pennington finished the match with a team-high eight kills despite only playing in two sets. Tesh and sophomore outside hitter Hannah Stewart (Boone, N.C.) each had six kills while junior middle Anika Constantinescu (Surrey, British Columbia, CANADA) added five kills. Tesh and Kerlin each had four service aces while junior setter Maleah Neely (Hillsville, Va.) dished-out 15 assists.

Katelyn Rice led Mary Baldwin with nine kills while Sara Valdivieso had 15 assists and five digs. Jessica Hickman notched five kills, five digs and four aces.

Emory & Henry will travel to Bluefield, W.Va. on Wednesday evening for a 7:00 p.m. matchup with the Lady Blues of Bluefield State College.
