Washington and Lee Volleyball Tops Emory & Henry, 3-1, Saturday Morning

EMORY, Va. – The Washington and Lee University Volleyball Team (25-6, 10-1 ODAC)  picked up a 3-1 (25-16, 28-30, 25-23, 25-20) victory over Emory & Henry College (15-12, 6-5 ODAC) Saturday morning to seal up the top seed in next week's Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament.

The two teams battled early in the first set before W&L took a 12-6 lead after a four point serving run. The Wasps would get no closer than five points the rest of the way as the Generals took a 25-16 win thanks to .480 (15-3-25) hitting in the frame.

Emory & Henry tied things up after the second set with a 30-28 win. The stanza featured 10 ties and five lead changes by itself as the Wasps led by a 13-6 score early. Washington and Lee clawed its way back into the set but E&H won key points on several long rallies that allowed them to take the point.

The third frame was nearly as close as the second with ties and 22 and 23, but W&L got four kills in the last five points from Anna Lausberg to take a 2-1 lead in the match.

Washington and Lee solidified the win in the third set as it had three scoring runs of three or more points. The Wasps battled back to close the gap to 17-12, but the Generals' attack was too much to overcome.

M.A. Boles led all players with 16 kills and 17 digs for the double-double and added three blocks while Lausberg had 13 kills. Meghan Meleski registered 48 assists while Kelly McManus had 15 digs and a match-high four service aces.

Senior middle Nicole Tesh (Boone, N.C.) had 13 kills and five blocks in the final home match of her career. Freshman outside hitter Tristen Pennington (Kingsport, Tenn.) had eight kills and 11 digs while freshman middle Kennady Thomason (Chattanooga, Tenn.) added seven kills and four blocks. Junior setter Maleah Neely (Hillsville, Va.) had 32 assists and 10 digs to complete the double-double. Freshman defensive specialist had a team-high 16 digs while freshman Hannah Doss (Meadowview, Va.) added six kills and 12 digs.
