Emory & Henry Volleyball Falls Twice On Final Day Of Averett Cougar Classic

DANVILLE, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (2-3) completed play in the 21st Annual Averett Cougar Classic on Sunday. The Wasps fell in the first match of the day, 3-1 (25-14, 20-25, 25-21, 25-23) to the Pride of Greensboro College and dropped a non-conference matchup against Roanoke College, 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-13) in the weekend finale.

Against Greensboro, junior right side hitter Hannah Doss (Meadowview, Va.) led the E&H offense with 10 kills and added 14 digs to complete the double-double to go along with two service aces and two blocks. Junior middle Kennady Thomason (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and sophomore outside hitter Ali Singleton (Mount Jackson, Va.) each had seven kills while Thomason added four blocks.

Junior libero Emily Hinshaw (Boone, N.C.) and junior outside hitter Tristen Pennington (Kingsport, Tenn.) notched 18 digs each while Pennington added five kills. Sophomore setter Sarah Scott (Collinsville, Va.) tallied 18 assists while freshman Sam McCauley (Glade Spring, Va.) added 14 assists.

In the match against Roanoke, Doss registered 11 kills and completed her second double-double of the day with 10 digs. Singleton had seven kills and eight digs while McCauley dished-out 18 assists. Hinshaw had 10 digs and two service aces.

Emory & Henry will open Old Dominion Athletic Conference play on Wednesday evening at home when it hosts Roanoke at 7:00 p.m.
