Emory & Henry Volleyball Goes 1-1 At Greensboro Invitational Saturday Afternoon

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (3-5) split its pair of matches Saturday at the Greensboro Volleyball Invitational on the GC campus. The Wasps opened the day with a 3-1 (25-13, 24-26, 25-18, 25-21) win over Oglethorpe University (2-4), but fell in their nightcap against West Virginia Wesleyan College (1-5) by a 3-1 (18-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-19) margin.

In the match against Oglethorpe, Emory & Henry attacked at a .289 (51-18-114) clip en route to the victory. Sophomore outside hitter Ali Singleton (Mount Jackson, Va.) led the team with 16 kills while junior right side hitter Hannah Doss (Meadowview, Va.) had a double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs, hitting .429 (14-2-28) in the process.

Junior outside hitter Tristen Pennington (Kingsport, Tenn.) added 13 kills, seven digs and four service aces while junior libero Emily Hinshaw (Boone, N.C.) chipped in 16 digs and three aces. Freshman Sam McCauley (Glade Spring, Va.) and sophomore Sarah Scott (Collinsville, Va.) split the setting duties with 16 and 12 assists, respectively as Scott added three aces.

The Stormy Petrels were led by Mary Ann Smith's 16 kill and 10 digs while Hannah Masionogale had eight kills and 25 assists from her setter position. Kaityln Woodruff and Evan Furst added six kills each while Gianna Zitello notched 11 digs.

The contest against West Virginia Wesleyan saw Pennington record 13 kills and a career-high 30 digs while Doss notched 13 kills of her own and added 20 digs. Scott registered 22 assists and 11 digs while McCauley dished-out 23 assists. Singleton posted nine kills while Hinshaw added 14 digs in the match.

The Bobcats were paced by Stacie Baumann, who had 20 kils and four blocks, while Hannah Moore followed with 17 kills and 16 digs for the double-double. Paulina Nottingham put up a match-high 28 assists and Hannah King earned nine kills and four blocks of her own.

Emory & Henry will complete play in the Greensboro Invitational on Sunday when it faces off against Swarthmore College (2:00 p.m.) and Greensboro College (6:00 p.m.).
