Emory & Henry Volleyball Splits A Pair Of Matches At Greensboro Invitational Sunday

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (4-6) completed play in the Greensboro College Invitational Sunday with two more matches. The Wasps fell by a 3-0 (25-4, 25-16, 25-13) score to the Garnet of Swarthmore College (6-3) before bouncing back to defeat the host Greensboro College Pride (3-6), 3-0 (21-25, 25-20, 18-25, 25-19, 15-9) in the final match of the tournament.

Junior outside hitter Tristen Pennington (Kingsport, Tenn.) was named to the All-Tournament team after completing the weekend with 50 kills (3.12 kills/set) and 61 digs (3.81 digs/set).

Against Swarthmore, junior right-side hitter Hannah Doss (Meadowview, Va.) led the way for E&H with a .357 (7-2-14) hitting percentage while Pennington added six kills and seven digs. Freshman setter Sam McCauley (Glade Spring, Va.) had 11 assists while junior libero Emily Hinshaw (Boone, N.C.) notched eight digs and a service ace.

The Garnet was paced by Sarah Wallace who hit .600 with 15 kills and no errors. Olivia Leventhal had seven kills and seven service aces while Sam Dubois added 18 assists in the win. Swarthmore attacked at a .354 (30-7-65) clip compared to 22-18-70 (.057) for Emory & Henry.

In the nightcap against Greensboro, the Wasps avenged a 3-1 loss from last weekend as Pennington put up 18 kills completed the double-double with 17 digs. Doss had a double-double of her own with 12 kills and 13 digs, adding five blocks and three aces as well. McCauley notched 21 assists, four aces and six digs while Hinshaw collected 23 digs and three service aces.

Shayla Moss led the Pride with 12 kills while Meredith Summers added eight kills and 17 digs. Tori Belcher posted a match-high 26 digs while Catherine Garcia registered 21 assists for Greensboro.

Emory & Henry will remain on the road Wednesday when it travels to Athens, Tennessee for a non-conference match against Tennessee Wesleyan College. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
