Tennessee Wesleyan Volleyball Defeats Emory & Henry, 3-1, Wednesday Night

ATHENS, Tenn. – The Tennessee Wesleyan College Volleyball Team (4-4) rallied from a 1-0 deficit as it defeated visiting Emory & Henry College (4-6) by a 3-1 (21-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-15 ) score Wednesday night in non-conference action at the James L. Robb Gymnasium.

Upon further examination of the rules, the match was declared an exhibition for Emory & Henry after its completion due to NCAA Rules under the "countable contest and playing rules" by-laws. The statistics from this match are not official and will not count for any team or individual records.

The Wasps took a 1-0 lead in the match after winning the first set, getting four kills from junior outside hitter Tristen Pennington (Kingsport, Tenn.) and three kills from junior right-side hitter Hannah Doss (Meadowview, Va.). E&H attacked at just a .138 percentage (9-5-29) for the frame but was able to hold off the Bulldogs, 25-21.

In the second set, the hitting percentages improved for both teams with TWC coming out on top 16-4-46 (.261) to .250 (14-5-36). Pennington added five more kills in the frame, but Tennessee Wesleyan edged E&H, 25-22 to tie things up. The Bulldogs took control in the final two stanzas to win the match, hitting over .250 for the stretch, while the injury-depleted Wasps were hampered by errors.

Tennessee Wesleyan's attack was led by Mandi Flores as she hit .579 (11-0-19) and Sierra Ingraham added 10 kills and two service aces. Kristen Henry had eight kills, six blocks and 13 digs while Olivia Holden notched 25 assists.

Pennington finished the match with 12 kills on a .233 hitting percentage (12-5-30) and 10 digs while Doss collected nine kills of her own. Sophomore setter Sarah Scott (Collinsville, Va.) had a team-high 15 assists while junior libero Emily Hinshaw (Boone, N.C.) led all players with 17 digs.

Emory & Henry will next compete on Wednesday, September 23 when it travels to Lexington, Virginia to face off against Washington and Lee University in and Old Dominion Athletic Conference match. First serve between the Wasps and Generals is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
