Emory & Henry Volleyball Splits A Pair Of Matches At Piedmont Saturday

DEMOREST, Ga. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (8-8) split its two matches Saturday afternoon on the campus of Piedmont College. The Wasps opened the day with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-21) loss to the host Piedmont Lions but rebounded with a 3-0 (25-4, 25-7, 25-7) win over Wesleyan (Ga.) College to end the day.

Emory & Henry hit a combined .186 (35-16-102) against Piedmont but the Lions attacked at a .276 (38-11-98) clip. PC had 10 service aces in the match compared to just two for E&H. Taylor Cramsey had 13 kills in the match and added seven digs while Mallory Leary added nine kills. Emily Peters led all players with 37 assists and added seven digs and two service aces and Haley Hixon chipped in a match-high 15 digs for the Lions.

E&H junior outside hitter Tristen Pennington (Kingsport, Tenn.) had a team-high 11kills while junior middle Kennady Thomason (Chattanooga, Tenn.) added eight kills and two blocks. Junior right-side hitter Hannah Doss (Meadowview, Va.) chipped in seven kills and 12 digs while freshman setter Sam McCauley (Glade Spring, Va.) dished-out 17 assists and added six digs. Wasp junior libero Emily Hinshaw (Boone, N.C.) registered 11 digs as well.

Against Wesleyan, Emory & Henry hit .528 (28-0-53) for the match, committing no hitting errors across the three sets. As a team, Emory & Henry had 23 service aces and attacked at a .714 (10-0-14) mark during the second set.

Thomason put up six kills while Pennington, senior right-side hitter Natasha Moore (Fries, Va.) and freshman outside hitter Tori Holmberg (Wake Forest, N.C.) had five kills each. Pennington took over the setting duties for E&H and had 15 assists and four service aces while McCauley added seven assists and seven aces. Freshman defensive specialist Amethyst Crawford (Afton, Tenn.) recorded four assists, four aces and six digs while Doss contributed four assists.

Wesleyan managed just nine kills in the match led by Sydney Cavanaugh who had five kills, three assists and a service ace. Zole Turner notched 12 digs to lead all players.

Emory Henry will return to action on Wednesday when it hosts Bridgewater College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference matchup at 7:00 p.m. The match will also serve as E&H's annual DigPink Night with all donations supporting the SideOut Foundation for Breast Cancer Research.
