Emory & Henry Volleyball Splits A Pair Of Matches At Maryville Friday Afternoon

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (9-10) went 1-1 on the day Friday at a tri-match on the campus of Maryville (Tenn.) College. The Wasps opened the day with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-6, 25-18) win over Agnes Scott College (6-9) and concluded action on the day with a 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-18) loss to the host Maryville Scots (9-6).

In the first match of the afternoon, Emory & Henry attacked at a .311 (39-11-90) clip against Agnes Scott which struggled to get any offense going. Junior middle Kennady Thomason (Chattanooga, Tenn.) posted a match-high 10 on 10-1-18 (.500) hitting and added three blocks. Junior outside hitter Tristen Pennington (Kingsport, Tenn.) had eight kills, 17 assists and five service aces while sophomore setter Sarah Scott (Collinsville, Va.) added 10 assists.

Sophomore outside hitter Ali Singleton (Mount Jackson, Va.) contributed six kills and junior right-side hitter Hannah Doss (Meadowview, Va.) had five kills, 10 digs and three blocks. Junior libero Emily Hinshaw (Boone, N.C.) had a match-high 19 digs as well for the Wasps. As a team, E&H recorded 12 service aces and five blocks in the match.

Paige Heck led the Scotties with five kills and six digs while Bonnie Derks and Morgan Pearson notched four kills each. Anna Tomkins chipped in 13 assists and seven digs.

Against Maryville in the nightcap, E&H managed just a .115 (29-18-96) hitting percentage compared to 37-18-100 (.190) for the Scots. Pennington had nine kills, 10 assists and five digs while Singleton added six kills and five digs of her own. Freshman outside hitter Tori Holmberg (Wake Forest, N.C.), freshman middle Kate Franklin (Blountville, Tenn.) and Thomason each had four kills in the match while Thomason added two blocks.

MC was led by Nia Haller with 10 kills and a .400 hitting percentage while Rachel Kozemko added eight kills and seven digs. Madison Smith and Taylor Youell split the setting duties with 16 and 11 assists, respectively, while Kaitlyn Flickinger notched 12 digs in the match.

Emory & Henry will step back into conference play on Wednesday when it travels to Lynchburg for a 7:00 p.m., matchup with the Hornets of Lynchburg College.
