Emory & Henry Volleyball Falls Twice In ODAC Action Sunday On The Road

ASHLAND, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (10-12, 3-5 ODAC) dropped a pair of matches in Old Dominion Athletic Conference competition Sunday on the campus of Randolph-Macon College. The Wasps fell, 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-16) to the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan College (20-6, 8-0 ODAC) in the first match of the day, and dropped a 3-0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-19) decision to the host Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets (18-3, 9-0 ODAC).

Against VWC, junior middle Kennady Thomason (Chattanooga, Tenn.) led the way with eight kills on 11 attacks (.727) while freshman middle Kate Franklin (Blountville, Tenn.) added six kills. Sophomore setter Sarah Scott (Collinsville, Va.) had 12 assists while junior libero Emily Hinshaw (Boone, N.C.) recorded 12 digs and a service ace.

The Marlins' Tiffany Barrett had a match-high 16 kills while Kristina Scott notched seven kills. Emilee Pearson and Kirstin Sessoms combined for 29 of VWC's 35 assists while Maddie Starr had a team-high nine digs.

As a team, Emory & Henry attacked at just a .115 (28-18-87) percentage and only had two blocks and four service aces. Virginia Wesleyan hit 38-7-87 (.356) for the match and added eight service aces in the match.

In match two against Randolph-Macon, the Wasps continued to struggle offensively, hitting only .058 (22-16-103) for the match. Thomason once again was the leader with seven kills and three blocks while sophomore outside hitter Ali Singleton (Mount Jackson, Va.) had five kills. Junior Tristen Pennington (Kingsport, Tenn.) contributed four kills, nine assists and six digs while junior right-side hitter Hannah Doss (Meadowview, Va.) had four kills and six digs. Hinshaw added a team-high eight digs and posted a service ace.

RMC was paced by Courtney Lowers, who registered 17 kills, 10 digs and four blocks and Kate Rossberg with eight kills and 12 digs. Erin Quinn notched 18 assists and six digs while Samantha Sallade had a match-high 17 digs. The Yellow Jackets hit .220 (40-18-100) over the match and added six blocks.

Emory & Henry will look to get back on track on Tuesday when it hosts Ferrum College in a non-conference matchup. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
