Emory & Henry Volleyball Loses A Pair at West Virginia Tech Tri-Match Tuesday

MONTGOMERY, W.Va. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (12-16) suffered a pair of setbacks on Tuesday evening on the campus of West Virginia University Tech. The Wasps fell by a 3-1 (25-18, 25-20, 20-25, 25-15) score to the Senators of Davis & Elkins College and dropped their final non-conference match of the year, 3-2 (23-25, 25-18, 25-18, 24-26, 15-11) to the Golden Bears of WVU Tech.

In their match against NCAA Division II Davis & Elkins, the Wasps were led by freshman middle Kate Franklin (Blountville, Tenn.) with 11 kills while freshman outside hitter Tori Holmberg (Wake Forest, N.C.) and junior right-side hitter Hannah Doss (Meadowview, Va.) each had nine kills and Doss added 14 digs. Sophomore Sarah Scott (Collinsville, Va.) and freshman Sam McCauley (Glade Spring, Va.) split the setting duties, combining for 32 assists while junior libero Emily Hinshaw (Boone, N.C.) had 14 digs.

Charisse Mitchell led D&E with 11 kills on .500 (11-3-16) hitting while Sasha Johnson added 10 digs. Haylee Murray had a double-double with 38 assists and 11 digs while Ellie Drain posted a match-high 19 digs.

The Golden Bears of WVU Tech avenged a loss to the Wasps earlier in the season, taking the final match of the day. Sophomore outside hitter Ali Singleton (Mount Jackson, Va.) posted a team-high 16 kills and added two aces and three blocks while Doss notched a double-double with 15 kills and 12 digs. Holmberg chipped in 10 kills and two digs while McCauley had a double-double of her own with 20 assists and 10 digs. Hinshaw finished the match with 28 digs and three service aces.

WVU Tech saw Keyonna Morrow post 19 kills, 10 digs and two blocks with Jacque Carroll adding 17 kills, seven digs and two blocks. Jaymee Hannan dished-out 27 assists while Madeline Gilson collected 28 digs. The Golden Bears attacked at a .225 (62-22-178) clip in the match compared to just .198 for E&H.

Emory & Henry will have its final regular season contest on Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m., when it welcomes Guilford College to the John Rutledge King Center. The match will also serve as Senior Night for the Wasps.
