Emory & Henry Volleyball Sees Three Named To All-ODAC Teams

FOREST, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team has seen three of its players named to the 2015 All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference Teams, ODAC officials announced Saturday. The all-conference teams were released following the 2015 ODAC Tournament Championship game, won by Randolph-Macon College.

Junior right-side hitter Hannah Doss (Meadowview, Va.) and junior middle Kennady Thomason (Chattanooga, Tenn.) were tabbed to the all-league second team while junior outside hitter Tristen Pennington (Kingsport, Tenn.) was selected to the All-ODAC Third Team.

Doss earns her first all-conference award after posting a team-leading 242 kills on the year. She averaged 2.22 kills per set, hitting .211 and added 22 aces and 38 blocks for the season. Doss was second on the squad with 313 digs and 2.87 digs per set, posting eight double-doubles. She reached double figures in kills 10 times, including a season-high 15 kills at West Virginia Tech on October 27. Doss notched a personal-best 24 digs at home against Roanoke on September 9.

Thomason improves on her All-ODAC Third Team selection from a year ago with 177 kills and a team-high 80 blocks from per position in the middle. She averaged 2.11 kills per set and attacked at a .244 clip, which was best on the team. Thomason hit over .250 in 11 different matches, notching 14 matches with seven or more kills. She also had four or more blocks 10 times on the season, including a career-high nine blocks against Shenandoah on October 24.

Pennington makes it three-straight years of all-conference honors. She averaged a team-high 2.52 kills per set and finished second on the squad in total kills (219) and service aces (34). Pennington stepped into a new role as a hitter-setter hybrid midway through the season, finishing the year with 134 assists. She reached the 20-kill mark twice on the year including against Bridgewater on October 7 when she nearly attained a triple-double with 22 kills, 20 assists and nine digs.  Pennington had eight matches with double-digit kills, seven with double-digit assists and seven with double-digit digs.

Emory & Henry notched a 13-17 overall record this season with a 5-6 mark in ODAC play. The Wasps finished sixth in the league and faced off against Washington and Lee University in the ODAC Tournament Quarterfinals, falling by a 3-0 score.

Randolph-Macon's Courtney Lowers and Bill Rogers were selected as the ODAC Player and Coach of the Year, respectively, for the second year in a row. Meg Guignon of Washington and Lee earned Rookie of the Year honors and Guilford College's Kelsey Ruehling was voted as the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Scholar-Athlete.
