Emory & Henry Volleyball Competes In The Averett Cougar Classic Over The Weekend

DANVILLE, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (1-4) played a slate of four matches on Saturday and Sunday at the 22nd Annual Averett Cougar Classic. The Wasps earned one win and suffered three losses over the course of the weekend.

Senior libero Emily Hinshaw (Boone, N.C.) achieved a pair of milestones over the weekend, reaching the 1,000-dig plateau and breaking the Emory & Henry record for service aces in a career.

The Basics

The North Carolina Wesleyan Match
- Sophomore Kate Franklin (Blountville, Tenn.) had a team-high nine kills on .316 hitting.
- Senior Kennady Thomason (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and sophomore Tori Holmberg (Wake Forest, N.C.) added seven kills each.
- Sophomore Sam McCauley (Glade Spring, Va.) and freshman Abigail Smiley (Abingdon, Va.) notched 15 and 13 assists, respectively.
- Hinshaw led the Wasps with 15 digs.

The Guilford Match
- Junior Ali Singleton (Mount Jackson, Va.) tallied 12 kills, hitting .588 (12-2-17) while freshman Sydney McKinney (Big Stone Gap, Va.) had eight kills with a .462 (8-2-13) attack percentage.
- McCauley had 15 assists and two aces while junior Sarah Scott (Collinsville, Va.) notched 10 assists.
- Hinshaw posted a team-high 17 digs and eclipsed the 1,000-dig mark for her career during the match.
- Thomason added five kills and four blocks in the match.

The Frostburg State Match
- Thomason had 11 kills on .400 hitting (11-3-20), three aces and five blocks to lead the way.
- Singleton tacked on nine kills while senior Hannah Doss (Meadowview, Va.) and Franklin had seven kills each.
- McCauley led all players with 24 assists, seven digs and two aces while Smiley added 16 assists, seven digs and two aces.
- Hinshaw posted 19 digs and two aces.

The Averett Match
- Thomason led the way again with eight kills and a .538 (8-1-13) hitting percentage.
- Singleton and Doss tacked on seven kills apiece while Singleton had six digs and Doss registered two blocks.
- Scott dished out 14 assists to go along with two aces while McCauley posted 10 assists and two aces.
- Hinshaw added 12 digs and another service ace to her credit, breaking the E&H record for career service aces (127).
