Eastern Mennonite Volleyball Tops Emory & Henry, 3-1, Wednesday In ODAC Action

EMORY, Va. – The Eastern Mennonite University Volleyball Team (4-10, 2-3 ODAC) built a 2-0 set lead and held on through a furious Emory & Henry College (4-11, 2-3 ODAC) rally for a 3-1 (26-24, 25-15, 24-26, 31-29) Old Dominion Athletic Conference win on Wednesday evening.

How It Happened
- The two teams battled through 16 ties and four lead changes in the opening set alone. Emory & Henry held a 24-22 lead late, but four straight points by EMU gave them the 26-24 win.
- The Royals opened up an early 7-3 advantage in the second and never looked back, scoring eight of the final 10 points of the set to win 25-15 and go up 2-0 in the match.
- In the third, Eastern Mennonite went up early, but the Wasps hung around waiting for their opportunity. Down 24-22, E&H reeled off four in a row to take the set, 26-24.
- The fourth set saw both teams put together runs early, but it quickly turned into a back-and-forth affair with 17 ties and nine lead changes. EMU battled through nine ties in the final 20 points of the frame, escaping with the 31-29 win to take the match.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Junior middle Rebecca Morehouse (Kingsport, Tenn.) led all players with 16 kills while senior outside hitter Ali Singleton (Mount Jackson, Va.) registered a double-double with 15 kills and 11 digs.
- Junior right-side hitter Tori Holmberg (Wake Forest, N.C.) also had a double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs while junior setter Sam McCauley (Glade Spring, Va.) put up 45 assists and 16 digs for a double-double of her own.
- Sophomore libero Lauren Coolidge (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) had a team-high 27 digs while junior defensive specialist Huntre Baxter (Blountville, Tenn.) had 14 digs.

Eastern Mennonite Individual Leaders
- Beck Hoskins paced the Royals with 11 kills while Kara Smith and Maria Yoder added nine and seven kills, respectively.
- Jasmine Johnson had 28 assists and nine digs while Skyler Johnson tallied 29 digs.

- Emory & Henry will remain at home Friday, stepping out of ODAC play to host Milligan College.
- First serve between the Wasps and Buffaloes is set for 6:30 p.m.
