Emory & Henry Volleyball Opens 2018 At The River City Invitational

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (0-4, 0-0 ODAC) got its season off to a start on Friday and Saturday with four matches at the River City Invitational, hosted by Marietta College.

The Basics
LOCATION – Marietta, Ohio
VENUE – Ban Johnson Arena
FRIDAY RESULTS – Earlham 3, Emory & Henry 0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-23)
                                 Marietta 3, Emory & Henry 0 (25-8, 25-14, 25-11)
SATURDAY RESULTS – Kenyon 3, Emory & Henry 0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-17)
                                 West Virginia Tech 3, Emory & Henry 0 (25-14, 25-14, 27-25)

The Earlham Match
- Senior right-side hitter Tori Holmberg (Wake Forest, N.C.) led the way with seven kills while freshman outside hitter Chelsie Crussell (Kingsport, Tenn.) added four kills and five digs.
- Senior setter Sam McCauley (Glade Spring, Va.) dished out 12 assists and added a service ace.

The Marietta Match
- Freshmen middles Makayla Payne (Bristol, Va.) and Delani Nagy (Clover, S.C.) each had six kills while Nagy added four digs.
- McCauley had 10 assists and five digs while freshman Ashley Clayton (Durham, N.C.) added 10 assists and seven digs of her own.

The Kenyon Match
- Holmberg put up seven kills to lead the Wasps offensively while McCauley had 15 assists, four digs and three service aces.
- Senior defensive specialist Huntre Baxter (Blountville, Tenn.) led the way with 14 digs while junior Lauren Coolidge (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) added 10 digs of her own.

The West Virginia Tech Match
- Payne posted six kills and two blocks while senior outside hitter Rebecca Morehouse (Kingsport, Tenn.) put up five kills, two aces and two blocks of her own.
- McCauley had a double-double with 16 assists and 10 digs while Baxter, Coolidge and freshman defensive specialist Abbie Jennings (Marion, Va.) tacked on six digs each.

- Emory & Henry will open the home portion of its schedule on Tuesday when it hosts Southern Virginia University at 6:30 p.m.
